Empty Net (Assassins, #3)

Empty Net (Assassins, #3) - Toni Aleo So, first off, I wonder if anyone noticed me crying at the gym. I was on an elliptical type machine with tears running down my eyes during parts of this one. I had to actually go find a quiet corner and read for 20 minutes before I could go back to working out.I still love these books, but I am getting a little tired of the female lead always being either massively needy, or so stubborn they're stupid. The guy always has to hang in there and fight for her, while she's being irrational based on past experiences. It needs to get changed up a bit. Maybe the guy is irrational. Or, maybe the fight from the girl isn't as drawn out. I love the characters, but the female leads are the hardest for me to get behind in this series since they spend so much time doubting themselves and their worth. Doubt is fine. I expect anyone to second guess and struggle a bit. I guess it's just that the last three books have not just been a struggle, but a full on battle to make the female come to their senses, while the guy has it all figured out. I'd like to see it mixed up a bit. That being said, I appreciate how hard Aleo tries to create drama and keep me sucked in. It's a hard line to walk because w/o the drama you're bored and if the guy causes all of the drama then the female readers don't think he's good enough for the girl. On the other had, if the girl is overly dramatic she looks weak. I can't even imagine how an author wins in any of those situations. Like I said, she's trying and that's all I can ask....well, maybe not all I can ask. Can we please not use the word cooter? I cringed the first time it was used, and then it just kept on coming. Okay, bad phrasing there. =) I don't think the word is cute or funny and I always have to shake my head every time an author decides to use it. Anyway! I loved Tate and the fact that he was so encouraging. I like that when the characters did fight, they worked it out instead of huge blow ups (referring to the middle of the book), or they fixed things as soon as they had a chance to calm down. I like that AA got her wish, but I was hoping that they would have adopted since a lot of women out there that can't have babies don't magically get pregnant. Although, personally, my aunt got lucky after having already adopted 4 kids. Maybe after this one she'll end up adopting since the epilogue didn't get that far. I'm also happy that Lucas' threat to have Levi investigated was followed up in this story. I felt like it was this random threat dangling from book 2 that got forgotten. I like that it wasn't since it means I'll trust the author if she ever leaves something hanging in a future story, rather than just assume it was a writing error. I hope one day an editor picks her up so I can have these on my shelf instead of digitally. 4.5 I'll forgive AA's craziness in the beginning since she has more reasons to be mentally screwed up than the previous 2 girls.
